On Tuesday, March 16, Christie Clinic invites the Arthur community to the grand opening of its newest facility, located at 431 West Palmer. The grand opening event will be held from 1-2 p.m. and will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours, and refreshments.
At the March 1st board meeting the village trustees passed a new usage tax on telecommunications and internet connections.
The "warm" summer season is behind us and fall and winter and quickly encroaching upon the town of Arthur. With the cold weather comes downtown Arthur's most festive holidays which include Halloween and Christmas.
Bruce Oye, owner of Oye's Hardware announced that he has purchased the former Dutch Oven Restaurant building in downtown Arthur.
The old building had a number of structural problems and with the closing of Horizon Home Center later this summer, Oye has decided to build a new building in its place to be able to expand his hardware business and increase his inventory in a number of categories.
He hopes to have a grand opening sometime this fall.
All of downtown Arthur looks forward to the increased traffic expected by this expansion.
At their June 2nd meeting the Arthur Village board learned about TIF District operations and benefits from Dan Walker, an economic developer from Bloomington, Il.
Arthur, Illinois - The 2008 Arthur Independence Day Celebration will begin on Saturday, June 28 at 4 pm with an Air Show featuring WW II Aircraft, Helicopter Rides, Skydivers and, tentatively, a Military Flyover.
The Arthur Park Board with the assistance of local citizens on an advisory committee, is pursuing the construction of a new public swimming pool to replace the current pool which is badly in need of costly repairs.
In developing a future needs plan for the park district, the advisory committee also recommended adding additional ball diamonds to the project to aleviate current ball diamond scheduling problems and also allow the park district to host larger tournaments.
Arthur school district has agreed to join in a feasibility study on the subject of forming a co-operative high school. Other districts in this group include Atwood-Hammond, Bement, and Lovington.
Superintendent Travis Wilson recommended joining the study even though AHS is in good financial shape at this time. Wilson assured the board that joining the study would not obligate the district to any future position on the subject.
With a co-operative high school, each community would retain a grade and middle school in each town.

What do you think Arthur should do on this issue? Almost everyone will agree that the burning is a nuisance at best and a serious health hazard to some, but what to do about the leaves?
Just ban the burning and let everyone fend for themselves?
Provide for free pickup and disposal at the village expense?
Limit the burning to certain days and tell the sufferers to get out of town on those days?
Or some combination?
