Comment on this subject: 11/15/07: High School District Re-organization Study. Arthur School board will vote this month on whether a feasibility study should be conducted by Dr. William Phillips of the University of Illinois Springfield examining curriculum, financial comparisons, transportation and facilities regarding possible future reorganization of area school districts. Arthur, Atwood-Hammond, Bement and Cerro Gordo are considering this study proposal, while Lovington has voted to not participate. Area superintendents have been meeting informally for nearly two years discussing declining enrollments, school funding concerns, and other common interests. Re-organized school districts operate differently than "Co-Op" districts, with an important aspect being the retention of local control over the remaining grade school district which would most likely remain in each participating town.
